First day in San Pedro...Elvi's Kitchen and The Palms Ocean Front Suite

Hello friends,

After a short 20 minute small plane ride across the water, we arrived in beautiful Ambergris Caye, San Pedro.  Upon arriving we took a taxi to our hotel, The Palms Oceanfront Suites.  After quite a bit of research, I chose this hotel based on the centralized location, high reviews on trip advisor and the ammenities.  If you stay at this hotel, we had room 24.  We were on the second floor with a double balcony.  We had a beach front view and a pool view as well.  There were two bedrooms and two bathrooms, free wi-fi, shuttle from the airport, full kitchenette and microwave.

I would say that everything was awesome and the rooms and grounds were immaculate.  The only thing that could be better would be if they had a restaurant below when you didn't want to leave the grounds and the two double beds were super squeaky beyond belief.  The queen bed where I slept was great!  :)    The view from our balcony was breathtaking and being that there were three girls, we felt safe.  They have night security as well.

For our very first meal in Belize, we wanted it to be delicious.  By the guidance of my friend Nigel, he told me to visit his cousin's restaurant.  We looked for Elvis Kitchen and asked for Jennie Staines.  Little did I know that she is the top of the culinary chefs in Belizian authentic cuisine. http://www.ambergristoday.com/content/stories/2013/november/29/belizean-cuisine-new-york-chef-jennie-staines-elvis-kitchen-saveur-magazine
When you meet her, she has a quiet and very humble and down to earth presence.  I told her I was a friend of her cousin, Nigel in Chicago and she was delighted to hear that and started to give me the low down on where to eat in San Pedro.  I told her, " I am a foodie and I want to go where the chef's go."  We ordered so many different tastings on the menu and she was so sweet to send over a traditional Belizian dish with stewed chicken, beans and rice and potato salad.  She also sent over an amazing dish of stone crab in a garlic butter sauce broth.

When visiting San Pedro, you must stop at Elvi's kitchen!
